Year 11 Experience Sixth Form Life at Windermere School

Yesterday, our Year 11 pupils had the exciting opportunity to step into the shoes of Sixth Form students during a Sixth Form Taster Day at Windermere School!

The day began with an inspiring talk from Stannite Jon Harwood. Jon, who joined Windermere in Sixth Form, chose the school for its International Baccalaureate (IB) programme and diverse range of subjects, which helped him navigate his uncertain career aspirations at the time. Today, Jon enjoys a successful career in television and passionately advocates for the IB as a pathway to a wide array of future opportunities. His engaging talk offered Year 11 a valuable perspective on what lies ahead and the possibilities the IB can unlock.

Throughout the day, the pupils explored Sixth Form life by sampling subjects such as Adventure, Psychology and Art. The Art session proved especially memorable, as pupils created fantastic pieces using chocolate syrup and sugar, drawing inspiration from Brazilian artist Vik Muniz. In addition to these hands-on lessons, Year 11 also had the chance to connect with current Year 12 and 13 students, who offered first-hand insights into Sixth Form life. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch together at Westmorland House, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. A huge thank you to everyone who made the day such a worthwhile experience.
