World Book Day at Windermere: A Celebration of Stories and Imagination

What a fantastic time we’ve had celebrating World Book Day at Windermere! From the younger pupils’ dazzling fancy dress costumes to the incredible Windermere 50 book recommendations shared by our older pupils, it has been a week filled with creativity, excitement, and of course, books!

Throughout the week, our Pre-Prep and Prep School children were delighted by a mystery reader each morning. As the children arrived at school, they were greeted by a special guest with a wonderful book to help start their day off right. These moments of shared reading truly brought our school community together and set a magical tone for the day ahead.

And what would a celebration of books be without food? We enjoyed an amazing feast inspired by some of our favourite literary works. It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils and staff alike to reflect on the books that have shaped our imaginations, all while sharing delicious treats! (Thank you Jane!)

At our Senior School, the excitement continued with pupils sharing their favourite books from the Windermere 50. This list, which was carefully curated last year by our English Department, pupils and parents, it features 50 must-read books that every pupil should explore during their time at Windermere. To bring these books to life, we hosted a reading hub in the library, where pupils could try out books from the Windermere 50 collection. The library also featured a fun quiz, there was engaging lesson activities in the English Department, and video book recommendations from pupils themselves.

It has been a truly memorable World Book Day, and we are so proud of how our entire school community came together to celebrate the power of stories. Here’s to many more years of reading, sharing and imagining!
