Windermere School’s Sailing Adventures

Windermere School Sailing Team vs Sedbergh School Sailing
The start of the Half Term saw victory for the Windermere School Sailing Team as they competed against Sedbergh School Sailing in a pre-season coached friendly regatta. This regatta was on like no other… with no wind on the day our amazing team had to think on their feet, with the question of ‘What Makes the Best Sailors?’- and how can we test it, with only 20 minutes to create us a challenge?… We had some brilliant challenges from both teams including: Piggy Back Relay Races, testing strength and fitness; Knot Tying Races, (an essential skill for any sailor); Rigging Races and ‘How many buoyancy aids can one person wear’ Challenge? With each competition the teams earned points and for the Grand Finale the teams entered into a head to head ‘One Rule Race’ out on the water- the only rule…? NO CRASHING!
Emerging Stars in Sailing
Freddie and Jim continue to represent Windermere School Sailing on their weekends all around the UK. With five out of six Grand Prix Events completed, Jim and Freddie are currently ranked 5th junior boat nationally and 14th overall out of 92 boats— incredible work boys! Looking ahead, they’ll be joined by fellow Windermere School Race Team sailors at the RYA Youth National Championships in Pwllheli over Easter, all while balancing their GCSE revision. Wishing them fair winds and the best of luck in Wales!
Saturday Sailing Easter Special at Hodge Howe
After an amazing spell of warmer conditions – with fantastic wind, on our last Saturday Sailing at Hodge Howe came bitter coldness. Our Teams had an amazing session on the water in the morning, followed by an Easter Special celebration of the end of term in the afternoon. And oh what fun you can get up to with: 66 hollow chocolate eggs, 24 real eggs, 6 spoons, 6 blindfolds, a packet of permanent markers, 12 sheets of paper, 4 pencils and 2 roles of gaffer tape! A huge congratulations to team ‘Egg-cellent Eggs’ on their win, through the trials and tribulations of keeping their best decorated raw egg alive through games such as: long-distance egg and spoon races, an Easter egg hunt with a twist, bunny races and tallest egg challenges! We wish everyone a fantastic Easter break and we look forward to an action packed summer of sailing at Windermere School!
