Scotland Climbing & Walking Trip
4 March 2023
Day 1
This was the most brilliant day in Coire an T-Sneachda in Cairngorm with Katerina and Luana. This was their first winter climb, making use of the mixed ground to the left of the Mess of Pottage. A fantastic day, well done girls!
Meanwhile, our walking team summited Cairn Gorm and experienced the most amazing cloud inversion.
Day 2
The second day of the trip saw Isaac, Morgan and Josh, led by Mrs Roberts, walking to the lofty heights of Stob Coire an T-Sneachda (at 1176m) and then into a whiteout on a bearing for the snow holes in Corrie Domhain.
They then returned to 1141m after exploring the holes and back to the van. Well done boys that’s a big day after yesterday!
Today, the climbing team included Luana, Katerina and Oscar. It was a murky day with a few snow flurries, however, once again windless, which is a luxury in Cairngorm. The team climbed the three star, Grade 2 classic Fiachaill Couloir in Coire an T-Sneachda, which is probably the longest route in the Coire. Another great day!
Day 3
The final day of climbing for Oscar, Katerina and Luana was as eventful as every other, heading back into Corrie an T-Sneachda to climb Jacob’s Ladder.
Another murky day meant the team had to navigate again to find the correct cliff in the Corrie.
Mr Platt was extremely impressed with our students, they listened carefully to instructions and really developed their climbing, belaying and stance management skills.
