Meet Mrs Cooke, our inspiring Head of Lower School
4 September 2024
It is with great excitement that we introduce Mrs Cooke as the new Head of Lower School (Year 7 – 9) at Windermere School. With the majority of her career being spent here at Windermere, Mrs Cooke brings a wealth of experience, insight and passion to her new role. Her journey within the school has been remarkable so far, having worked in both our Junior and Senior School we couldn’t ask for a more perfect person to lead the transition for pupils moving from Year 6 in to Year 7.
Mrs Cooke’s connection with Windermere School is both professional and personal. Not only is she an inspiring member of staff, but she is also a proud parent. Her twin boys attended Windermere throughout their entire school life, which gives her a unique perspective on the school and the needs of our pupils. Her husband, Mr Cooke, is a much-loved Geography teacher here, making the Cooke family an integral part of our community.
Mrs Cooke expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Head of Lower School. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been chosen to continue to develop this fantastic school onto the next stage of its journey.
As a parent whose two children attended the school from Pre-School through to Sixth Form I understand the importance of providing a nurturing and supportive environment for our children to thrive. My goal is to ensure that every child at Windermere has the opportunity to reach their full potential, both academically and socially.
I have worked in education for over 20 years, most of which has been in Windermere School. I have worked as a Year 1 and Year 4 teacher at Windermere and I feel this gives me a great knowledge of what is needed to take Windermere School forward.”
From reading bedtime stories to dragon eggs in Year 4 to the thrill of scoring a goal against football legend Shay Given, Mrs Cooke has embraced every opportunity with endless enthusiasm. She has also worked alongside the world-famous adventurer Leo Houlding, demonstrating her love for adventure and education. Before finding her love for education, Mrs Cooke worked as an outdoor and canoe instructor on the Ardeche (see picture below), not only that, she also worked as an equestrian instructor, her talents are endless! Her dedication is evident, and we are confident that she will continue to inspire and uplift our pupils in her new role.
We encourage everyone to visit Mrs Cooke’s professional Facebook page, Teaching is a Work of Heart, where she shares many of her wonderful projects and memories. We know she will continue to make a positive impact on our school community, and we are excited to see all that she will accomplish as Head of Lower School.
Please join us in wishing Mrs Cooke the best of luck in her well-deserved new role!
