NSPCC Number Day 2025!

14 March 2025

What a memorable day! Last Wednesday, Year 12 hosted the annual Number Day to raise money for the NSPCC, and looking into the facts and figures, it was immediately apparent that this was a huge success! We are proud to announce that we managed to raise £320, from just one afternoon of maths fun.

There isn’t just the Year 12’s to thank, this was also down to the competitors themselves, our feisty teams of Year 7’s and 8’s. The afternoon started with the younger pupils getting themselves into teams. Which led swiftly onto the competition.

One of the most popular activities was the maths block blast, which entailed each participant answering an algebra question. If successful they got to place a block in the grid. With questions getting progressively harder, the chance to place a block in the grid became a struggle and therefore increasing point totals was challenging, but the determined teams succeeded, and many points were eventually scored.

Another activity which riddled many brains, was the classic ‘how many in the jar?’ but this one had a twist. You could actually use maths for it! So, many hardworking year 7s and 8’s put their minds to the test and revised their circle theorems, volume and estimation skills and eventually the number of chickpeas inside the jar was “guessed” with amazing accuracy.

This is just a small insight into the happenings of Number Day, other events included: Fractions Snakes and Ladders, Factors & Multiples Twister and some fun Probability games. All with a unique maths twist to them. Despite the location in the Dance Studio with panoramic views, the competitors remained focussed and engaged by the afternoon’s activities. And thanks to their hard work, many donations rolled in, which is greatly appreciated by all participants and organisers.

In the end, we announced the winners which were NumberNerdz from Year 7 and PrepSkool from Year 8! This afternoon brought many smiles, much enthusiasm, a few puzzled looks, and a lot of questions but it was thoroughly enjoyed by all our Year 12 helpers and our hardworking Lower School!

Thank you to all who donated!
