A Day of Discovery: Year 9 Engages in UCLAN Research Forum
23 May 2024
On Friday, May 17, our Year 9 pupils had the exciting opportunity to visit the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) in Preston to participate in their Research Forum. The day was packed with educational and engaging activities that broadened our pupils’ horizons and sparked their curiosity.
The event kicked off with a fascinating lecture on AI and the Law. Pupils learned about the basics of artificial intelligence and explored the evolving landscape of legal frameworks designed to keep pace with advancements in AI technology.
Following the lecture, the pupils delved into a series of interactive workshops. These hands-on activities ranged from fire twisting to experiments on the effectiveness of hand sanitizers. Additionally, our pupils had the unique chance to collaborate with UCLAN students on various projects, including robotics and forensic science. These workshops provided a practical glimpse into scientific principles and innovative technologies.
The afternoon sessions were equally compelling, featuring two thought-provoking talks. The first talk delved into the concept of Dark Tourism, encouraging pupils to reflect on why people are drawn to visit sites of historical tragedies and the ethical considerations surrounding this phenomenon. The second talk focused on Crisis Leadership, comparing the differing approaches to leadership tasks between teenagers and adults in leadership roles.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to UCLAN for hosting our pupils and providing such an enriching experience. The knowledge and inspiration gained from this visit is invaluable. We hope to visit again soon!
