MOVING UP TO SENIOR SCHOOL
At Windermere School, we understand that the transition from Prep to Senior School is a significant milestone for both children and their families. Fortunately, our unique setting on the beautiful Browhead Estate—home to both our Prep and Senior Schools—means this change feels like a natural next step rather than a daunting leap.
From an early age, our pupils become familiar with the Senior School environment, often interacting with older students through whole-school events and cross-year group activities. Sixth Form students, for example, regularly lend a hand in Forest School sessions, building strong, positive relationships across age groups. As a result, our younger pupils grow up feeling confident and comfortable around older peers, often forming friendships that span year groups.
In Year 6, we help prepare pupils for the next stage in their education by introducing them to specialist teaching in subjects such as Science, Languages, and Computing, delivered by our experienced Senior School staff. This early exposure helps ease the academic transition and sparks curiosity and excitement for the years ahead.
When it comes time to move into Year 7, pupils do so alongside the friends they’ve made throughout Prep School, joined by new classmates from across the UK and overseas. This blend of familiarity and fresh beginnings makes the transition an exciting opportunity to grow, both socially and academically.
To ensure every child feels supported, our Head of Lower School, Mrs Lisa Cooke, plays a key role in the transition process. Already a familiar face to our Prep pupils, Mrs Cooke works closely with families and new joiners to ensure a smooth and positive start to Senior School life. Her care and guidance help children settle in quickly and feel part of the Windermere community from day one.
At Windermere School, we’re proud to offer a transition that is thoughtfully planned, warmly supported, and full of exciting possibilities.
We do hope you find this information helpful, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in contact with Mrs Lisa Cooke, Head of Lower School at Windermere School’s Senior Campus, or Mrs Jenny Davies, Pre-Prep & Prep School Headteacher.
