Under 14 South Lakes District Netball Tournament
15 November 2022
On 3 November the under 14 Netball Team travelled to Sedbergh School to compete in the Under 14 South Lakes District Netball Tournament.
We had a strong squad of players from Year 8 and 9, and a good chance of progressing to the final. We played John Ruskin School in the first of our group matches and beat them convincingly, 11-4.
Dallam School were up next, which promised to be a tougher match, but the girls played well with Brooke M and Lydia H strong in Centre and Wing Defence, and Vicky C and Alara C consistent with their shooting in the circle. The final score was 11-2, so the girls’ confidence was high going into our final group match against The Lakes School.
This proved to be a tougher match than we thought, but Juno C and Norah H were strong in defence, and Ava S played well in Wing Attack alongside Brooke and Lydia, resulting in a very close 5-4 victory to Windermere.
This meant we progressed to the semi-final as winners of our group to play the runners up of the other group, Queen Elizabeth School. This promised to be our toughest match yet, but the girls stepped up to the pressure, winning 7-5. We knew the worst we could finish now was overall runners up, which meant we would progress to the county finals.
The girls were apprehensive about playing Sedbergh in the final but they came out determined to play strongly. We were 3-0 up in the first few minutes of the first half, which was an amazing start against a competent Sedbergh team. We managed to hold the lead to 4-3 at half-time. Sedbergh must have had a stern team talk from their coach at half time, as they came back all guns blazing, winning the match 15-5.
Mrs Murray and I were really pleased with the girls’ performance throughout the afternoon, and they just got better and better as the matches got tougher. Player of the tournament was awarded to Lydia H.
Best of luck to the girls at the Under 14 County Finals at Sedbergh School on 16 November.
